When Amazon was on the hunt for a city its second headquarters could call home, Kansas City needed a way to stand out from hundreds of other candidates bidding for HQ2.

An overwhelming majority of online shoppers consider product reviews and feedback from their own social circles before making a purchase.

Challenge

We needed to position Kansas City as a great place for businesses to thrive and a wonderful place for people to live in a way that even Amazon would appreciate. National media coverage and a healthy dose of ingenuity were absolutely necessary.

Solution

We paired product reviews with Mayor Sly James’ social media savviness to turn Kansas City into the most well-reviewed city on Amazon. Mayor James purchased 1,000 items on Amazon, incorporating the city’s selling points into each rave review he gave before sharing to Twitter.
